Parents and caregivers sometimes think they are WEAK if they ask for help. I cannot stress enough how UNTRUE this is!
STRONG people ask for help! STRONG people admit they need input and resources to help their family! STRONG people reach to others for support!
It is so important to be part of a strong support system. Sometimes, I even call it a tribe, or a circle, which is a small core group of individuals who love and support you and who will not judge you, your children, or your parenting style! Also, those who will NEVER judge your mistakes. As special needs parents, we make them all the time, as there is no manual on how to raise our children!
Having people in your life who are sympathetic and empathetic of our struggles, and who offer us supportive advice instead of unwanted insults is so essential to our mental well being!
There are so many different ways you could find support for your family!
Because it would be impossible for me to keep up with all of the local support groups that are offered to our families, I encourage you to join my Facebook group as support events are posted all the time. I also encourage you to reach out to other families through this group, as you may find others in your area who are looking to connect!
If you are interested in starting your own support group, reach out to me! I will gladly talk to you about my experiences developing and running a support group and I will help you develop your own!
